The Boleyn is trying this and unfortunately will fail.

Heard that a few pubs around the Barking Rd will try and keep fans in next season by running coach services from the boozers to the OS.
Think they're pissing in the wind personally. But you'd try all you could I suppose.

They completely demolished that school opposite the Spotted Dog and re-built it last year.

Upton Lane is already being gentrified.

Don't really think nationality or even religion come into it that much... always plenty of black and asian people in that pub... it's just miles away from the nearest station and is on the tail end of a minor high street, where half the shop fronts are empty anyway (or were last time I was there a year or two ago), and to top it all pretty much faces one of the worst schools in the borough.
Just can't see why all the hipsters who are helping Woodgrange to regenerate into something approaching a developed country would go anywhere near Upton Lane. Maybe I'm wrong, hopefully I am.

There's a little motorbike shop down Upton Lane that I take my bike to for it's MOT been going there for years and even though I don't live in Forest Gate anymore I still take it there - Etty and Tyler.
Fella that owns it says he is the only English shop left down there everyone else has gone.

The idea of that little area area being rejuvenated into some sort of "Forest Gate Village" type area (based around the Spotted Dog, West Ham Park and a few of them big old buildings round there) probably wouldn't be such a laughably stupid idea if Upton Lane wasn't such a complete fucking DUMP.

I've got a great idea!
Why not turn it into a sort of community centre where people can have a chat and a bit of a laugh. There could also be a counter where people could buy food and drinks, even alcoholic ones for non-muslims..
A new idea, but I'm not sure what you would call such a place.

They won't knock the Spotted Dog down it's protected by law.
That's not to say a mysterious and unexplained fire won't burn it to the ground though.
I know that's it's been bought by property developers but how to incorporate the medieval part into a modern housing development is the tricky bit.

I agree it probably won't be a pub again but it's a shame if it can't be used for something.
Eventually I suppose it'll be knocked down and turned into flats like most of the others.

It's a great idea but will never happen. The location is just completely wrong. No matter how much Woodgrange gets gentrified I can't see it ever reaching the Spotted Dog. Shame but that's life.

Just that bit too far away. 500 yards up West Ham Lane then it might've been OK.

There is a "Save the Spotted Dog" group who are trying to get various parties interested in it. But it's all about money and can it be a viable pub again?
Some suggestions were to turn it into a museum but the council have no money.
Perhaps they are barking up the wrong tree.
I'll get my coat!

It's a travesty how they've left the Spotted Dog to crumble. Used by Henry VIII as a hunting ground apparently. All the doe theyve splashed out on the area and they couldn't do something with that. I still pass it regularly
